iPhone 4
The iPhone 4 is no longer speculation but a reality. Apple.com has their new phone plastered across their homepage and there are videos letting us know what to expect from the new device. The news is sure to dampen the hope of much success for other phones being released like the HTC EVO 4G that came out just four days ago (coincidence? I think not!) Here’s what’s new:
Facetime
Apple is introducing the world to a whole new form of mobile communication with their mobile video chat called Facetime. Facetime doesn’t require any extra set up or any usernames; with just one tap you can be face to face with whoever is on the other line. Facetime allows the use of either camera for video chatting so you can have a face to face talk, or see exactly what whoever is on the other line is seeing. The biggest limitation to facetime is that it does not use the AT&T network so you can only video call when both parties have wifi.
New Stronger Build
iPhones are notorious for being extremely fragile and few people make it through a two year contract without a crack or two in their screen. IPhone 4 is changing that with by using a new glass on both the front and the back of the phone similar to that used in military helicopters. It is supposed to be 30 times stronger and much more scratch resistant. Apple also engineered a new extra hard steel just for the iPhone that also acts as an antenna leaving room for a bigger battery that promises a 40% better battery life. The silent and volume buttons have been redesigned to match its slimmer boxy design.
Apple A4 Processor
The all new Apple A4 processor blows the old ones out of the water. The extra speed allows the much anticipated support of multitasking for the iPhone. The extra power is also needed to support the new Facetime, video editing, 720p recording, and retina display. Amazingly all the extra power comes at no cost to the battery life. The A4 is highly efficient and actually improves the battery life of the iPhone 4.
Retina Display
The iPhone 4 has four times the pixels the 3GS had so the display is absolutely outstanding. Everything is crystal clear. Movies and photos look life-like. The retina display brings your beautiful 5 megapixel pictures to their true potential. The cover glass has a special lament applied to it to prevent light refraction preventing that nasty glare on a bright day.
The iPhone 4 starts at the low price of $199 and is available for preorder June 15th. The 3Gs is now only $99. They are sure to move fast so make sure you preorder early!
